Obituary for Laverne McAllister
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our sweet Laverne “Vernie Pants” McAllister, in the arms of her best friend, Luke McAllister, on April 21, 2022. She was born in 2013 in Claysville, PA, and was the last surviving member of the Pants Clan, which included her sisters Shirley and Marbles.
She grew up on a farm in Claysville with her sister, Shirley, where she befriended Clark Gable the raccoon and played with moles and mice. She loved climbing ladders, which took her to faraway places like the roof and the rafters of the garage. She moved to the big city in 2018, where she enjoyed nature from the safety of her cat house, and later embraced the freedom of a fenced-in yard.
Like many ginger tabbies, Vern loved food but also had a refined palette. She was a connoisseur of snacks, especially chicken broth, turkey, Siggi’s Yogurt, sour cream, half & half, Mikal’s beer, catnip, select cheeses, Earth Balance Buttery Spread, and chicken-flavored treats. She lived for her daily portion-controlled regimen of brown balls.
She was a creature of habit and the most loyal companion.
Her hobbies included the zoomies, self-grooming, playing with da bird and da mouse, making biscuits, rolling around, climbing trees, stalking and chasing stray cats, scratching her cat tree, laying in the sun, napping in the shrubs, and bringing joy to everyone around her. She loved a warm lap, a good scratch behind the ear, and a soft blanket.
She will be remembered for her kind soul, gentle disposition, and occasional encounters with wildlife: praying mantises, baby birds, and little bunnies. May you forever chase butterflies in the sky, sweet girl.
Those left to cherish her memory include her devoted humans, Luke McAllister and Abby Collier, her loving uncles, Adam and Nathan McAllister, her sita, Prudence McAllister, her grandparents, Roger and Gretchen Collier, and a host of extended family and close friends.
